What Waterproofing System is Best For Your Water Problem

Spring is the perfect time to check your home for water issues. It is recommended to check your home twice yearly, in the fall and in the spring due to the multitude of ways water can enter your home.

Water can enter your home from:

  • Clogged or broken gutters and downspouts
  • Leaking pipes and fixtures
  • Negative grading around the home
  • Groundwater saturation
  • Irrigation overwatering
  • Defective window and crawlspace vent wells
  • Cracks or gaps in the foundation
  • Hydrostatic pressure on porous foundation materials such as terra cotta block, brick or CMU concrete block
  • Failed Sump Pump

If these entry points are neglected over time, you will have a mounting list of water problems. Problems first appear as minor damp spots, but these should not be written off as harmless as these may be the most obvious sign of water problems, while others may be present, but less apparent. At this stage, a standard waterproofing solution is needed.

Moisture and water problems can progress into efflorescence, a white, powdery, or crystal-like substance that leaves mineral deposits that appears on the interior or exterior of the walls of your crawlspace or basement. Other signs of water or moisture issues also include the presence of various types of mold including black, white or yellow mold that can show up on floor joists in the crawlspace or on home furnishings stored in your basement. While these unsightly water problems can be removed and cleaned, this does not mean they are out of sight and out of mind as this is only a temporary fix and these issues will return unless the moisture and water issue is appropriately addressed. An intermediate waterproofing solution is needed to solve these initial signs of water and moisture problems.

If ignored, efflorescence and mold will continue to grow and cover surfaces in your basement and crawlspace at an exponential rate all while water problems continue to mount. At this time you may notice standing water on the floors of your basement or crawlspace. This signals major drainage issues around the exterior of your home that are now impacting the interior. To avoid further water damage and more serious structural issues, you need an advanced waterproofing solution with a comprehensive crawlspace or waterproofing system.

At Carolina Foundation Solutions, we offer a line of waterproofing solutions to solve your specific water problem, eliminate future water intrusion and give you peace of mind.

Crawlspace Waterproofing Solutions:

Problem: Damp Ground

Standard Solution: Vapor Barrier Installation

One of the simplest ways to prevent moisture problems inside of a crawlspace is to have a proper vapor barrier installed. We use a durable 14 mil vapor barrier system to cover the entire ground to block water vapor and help control moisture levels.

Problem: Mold & Efflorescence on walls

Intermediate Solution: Encapsulation System with Dehumidifier Installation

A proper crawlspace encapsulation system is one of the most efficient and effective ways to control the levels of moisture and humidity inside a crawlspace. The entire crawlspace floor and each masonry pier is properly wrapped and sealed using an antibacterial 14 mil Flexi Seal vapor barrier. The foundation walls are then wrapped using 20 mil Flexi Foil, a reinforced moisture, vapor and heat radiant barrier that prevents water and moisture penetration. The entire space is covered and sealed with Flexi-Seal and Flexi Soil. Along with crawlspace encapsulation, a dehumidifier is a smart option to control humidity in your crawlspace and protect your home. We install the Aprilaire 1850, a reliable, high-strength dehumidifier with a capacity of 95 pints per day. The dehumidifier extracts moisture from the air,  forces it over extremely cold coils and then pushes the drier air back out into the environment. This powerful unit is simple to use and requires minimal maintenance – just a filter change and cleaning once per year.

Problem: Standing Water, Wet Insulation

Advanced Solution: Crawlspace Waterproofing System

A comprehensive crawlspace waterproofing system includes vapor barriers, Flexi Seal and Flexi Foil, an Aprilaire dehumidifier and the addition of the QuikFlo drainage system and PitBoss sump pump. The vapor barriers prevent ground and foundation wall moisture penetration, the dehumidifier controls air humidity and the QuikFlo drainage system diverts any standing water into the sump pump that removes all water outside of the home and away from the foundation. The components work together to eradicate moisture and remove water to ensure your crawlspace stays dry permanently. For the utmost protection, you have the choice to add a PumpSpy battery back up system that monitors the health of your main sump pump, backup pump and battery, 24/7, so your system will never go down even if a power outage occurs.

Basement Waterproofing Solutions:

Problem: Mold on Surfaces, Standing Water

Standard/Intermediate Solution: Basement Waterproofing System with Sump Pump

To ensure that your basement problems are properly put to rest, all of our waterproofing systems consist of the same critical components; a moisture barrier, a diverter, a drainage system and a sump pump. These four components make up our standard waterproofing solutions. For an intermediate waterproofing solution, you have the choice to extend the height of our high-performance waterproofing panel or moisture barrier, Durawall, to cover and seal the entirety of all interior foundation walls.

Problem: Mold on Surfaces, Standing Water

Advanced Solution: Basement Waterproofing System with Durawall & Battery Back-Up System

For the utmost security and peace of mind, you can choose a five-component waterproofing system that includes a battery back up for your sump pump. The PumpSpy Professional WiFi Connected Battery Backup System is a battery-operated backup sump pump that is only available from certified installers. The system includes 24/7 free monitoring, backup sump pump, battery case, switches and a battery backup for internet and wifi connection.
